COPEMED
was born in 1996 to strengthen scientific
collaboration among Western and Central
Mediterranean countries involved in the
management
of fisheries in this area.
Morocco
,
Algeria
,
Tunisia
,
Libya, Malta, Italy, France and
Spain
have adhered
to the project.
Objectives
The
main objective of the project is to widen scientific
knowledge and regional cooperation for
the
sustainable management of the
Mediterranean
fisheries.
Within
the frame of international cooperation,
COPEMED reinforces the capacities of the
Southern
riparian countries, favours collaboration between the
participating states and supports their
contribution
to the scientific activities recommended
the by the regional fisheries management bodies
(GFCM1,
ICCAT2).
