  • This site focus on information about Mediterranean marine science. In particular, you will find essential information on opportunities in research and advanced training. This site also provides on-line access to an illustrated Guide of Marine Research Stations and a listing of some 250 exotic species of fishes, crustaceans and mollusks recorded in the Mediterranean by CIESM teams of experts.

  • As well as a presentation of the commission, its objectives, the meeting schedule and the description of its different research programs, we will find on this site:

    • by species: data on the biology, fishery, stock assessment and the main management recommendations and resolutions formulated for the conservation of the specie,

    • statistics : two databases are available, including selection programs:

      • TUNASTAT : latest nominal catch of tunas and tuna-like-species, by species, country, fishing gears and major regions (from 1950 to 1996),

      • CATDIS : catches given by 5 degrees squared and quarterly for the 9 main tuna species, grouped by country and by 4 gear classifications (longline, purse seine, baitboat and others).

  • The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Fisheries (DGF) is the responsible for the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). This policy covers all fishing activities and the farming of living aquatic resources as well as the processing and marketing activities of these products, on the legal basis of Article 39 of the Treaty of Rome.

    As well as a general presentation and an organization chart, we find on this site the following headings:

  • common fisheries policy (CFP): general presentation and fact sheets classified by topics
     

  • “Information” of the DGF: press releases, official documents, calls for proposals/tenders, speeches. All these texts are directly accessible (often under PDF format). We also find advertising of events: fairs, exhibitions, campaigns, etc…

  • through the link “Publications” you can access the following information:

    • Total Allowable Catches (TACs) and quotas presented in image format (and therefore slow to load).

    • More informative, the statistical bulletin of the European Commission (see our presentation under the heading DATA & STATISTICS).

    • PESCA Info Newsletter, published 10 times a year in all Community languages is available under electronic format and it is possible to subscribe from this page.

  • community Legislation in force and preparatory documents for the implementation of new regulations,

  • sites of interest: presented under our heading “META-SITES”,
