At the present there are many Institutions and individuals participating in the WinPopDyn Network. If you want participate you may request the Project or the Co-ordinator to assist you in this respect.

Letter from the Project/ Co-ordinator:

We are pleased to send you the final version of the POPDYN software and its User's manual. We are sending POPDYN to other scientists working on stock assessment in the Mediterranean asking them to send their data back to us. In this way, we want to create a database with the data available in the Mediterranean on stock assessment. Once this database is completed it will be redistributed to all contributors and made available to fishery scientists and institutions.

We would like request your collaboration to participate in this network of fishery scientists throughout the Mediterranean. If you, or another colleague who has been working in the field of stock assessment for a number of years, wish to participate in this activity, would you kindly acknowledge this letter. We would like request you to enter in the POPDYN database stock assessment data regarding the area you are covering with your researches. We hope that you will find this a useful way of rapidly accessing information on fishery resources and their management in your area. If you agree, would you send us at intervals a copy of your work. We will verify this against existing records and use it to build a Mediterranean database on stock assessment data. This will be sent back to you with new data from other correspondents included.

One of the main goal of POPDYN is trying to standardise the parameters used in stock assessment to make them more uniform and comparable. For this reason, not all parameter can be host in POPDYN but only some of them have been selected as the most commonly used. If you have data regarding parameters not included in POPDYN, please enter these data in the Comments fields. For future releases of POPDYN, we will revise all the records and eventually, according with the user's comments, we would change or add fields. We are also interested in identifying the geographical location of stocks and we are taking in consideration how to organize the entering of this information in the POPDYN frame. If you know the geographical co-ordinates, also rough, of the area where the stock you are dealing with is found, please enter them in the Comments field.

Hardware/Software requirements: Initially WinPopDyn requires 7 MB of hard disk space, but as you build up your data files it may require much more. It has been developed using MS-VisualBasic and MS-ACCESS 7 under Windows95 operative system. It has a built-in module in Excel 5 to manipulate data. It requires the Windows 9x, NT or 2000 Operating System with MS-Office-ACCESS97 installed.
