The decision to produce a Guide of Elasmobranches of the
Mediterranean and Black Sea follows a request from the GFCM (SAC subcommittee env.
2001). The FAO COPEMED project offered to support its
production.
The guide is aiming at the determination of the
Elasmobranches species. It will have the same presentation as other guides
produced by the Species identification and data Programme (SIDP) of the FAO
Fisheries Department. I will present 2 or 3 species per page. The text will be
in English and will include a brief paragraph on interest to fishery and
conservation status.
The sources used for the guide will mainly be:
